A little bit
of trivia...
Draws
and least wins
(posted 17 June 2002)
Saints have now
had three draws this year. This has only happened
three times before: In 1950, 1968 and 1993. The
Steelers also played three draws in 1997.
Taking out the
less than impressive Steelers' record, Saints have
never lost more than 14 games in a season. The years
1922 (18 rounds), 1926 (18 rounds), 1990 (22 rounds)
and 2000 (26 rounds) saw 14 losses for the season.
The least wins
Saints have include:
Two wins in 1921,
1922, and 1926.
Three wins in 1924,
1936 and 1938.
Four wins in 1932
and 1945.
The best seasons
for Saints, ie most wins, are too numerous to list
with 39 seasons of 12 wins or more.
In comparison,
in 2002, after 14 rounds (12 more rounds to go):
3 wins, 7 losses,
3 draws, 1 bye.
If Saints get one more draw in 2002, they have set
a new record.
Saints
finally get in the black
(posted 20 July 2002)
Saints' round
19 win over Souths saw them go into the black on
the for-and-against ratio for the first time in
2002.
Throughout the
season, Saints have had more points against but
the 48-10 win over the Rabbitohs saw them finally
gain an advantage after previously being in the
red. After 19 rounds, Saints are 18 points in the
black with 448 points for and 430 points against.
Saints
& Sharks versus the threes
(posted 19 September 2002)
The upcoming
match in the 2002 semi finals will see St George
and Cronulla break an unusual deadlock. Since the
Sharks joined the competition in 1967, the two teams
have played 69 times. The win / loss / draw figures
for both teams couldn't be simpler and are as follows:
Won: 33
Loss: 33
Drawn: 3
Who's into the number
three?
This unusual statistic
will be broken after Saturday night's semi final
match when the Dragons take on Cronulla.
The two teams have
only met twice before in Finals Football. In 1973
(won by Sharks 18-0) and 1999 (won by St George
24-8).
