DRAGONS
ALL STARS VS USA TOMAHAWKS
To
All Dragons Supporters,
On
behalf of many former Dragons players, I'd like to say
how great
it will be to see as many fans as possible turn up to
Kogarah on
Wednesday the 12th of February for this game. This game
has a
significant meaning to all St George people, both past
and present.
The main reasons for this game are:
*
To support the Joanne Mackay Helping Hand Foundation.
This
Foundation has been set up to raise money to help individuals
diagnosed with breast cancer to best live their lives.
I'm sure most
are aware that Joanne passed away last year with breast
cancer, and
as former players, we feel that this is an opportunity
for all of us
to show support to both Brad and his young family in the
endeavour
they have ahead of them.
*
We are finally going back to Kogarah in 2003! This game
will let us
all relive past great memories of this historic home ground
of the
Dragons, and to wet the fans appetites of things to come
in the years
ahead.
*
Former St George and Illawarra players will pull on the
mighty red
and white jumper one more time. We may not be as fast
or nimble as
before, but we are all still as passionate as ever to
get together
and play as a team like the good old days.
*
Many old friends and fans involved with the club over
the years
will be able to reunite for such a good cause. It will
be great to
see some old faces that were in our lives week in week
out throughout
our careers.
*
This game will also support Rugby League in the USA. David
Niu, a
former Dragon, has done an incredible job in developing
our great
game in foreign territory. It gives him a chance to display
his work
with the Tomahawks and to return to a ground that he played
on with
both St George and James Cook Boys High School. Entry
to the game
will be $5 for adults and $2 for all children. During
the game we
will be raffling a St George jumper signed by the players
present on
the day. Tickets will be $5 each or 3 for $10, and will
be able to be
purchased at the turnstiles as you walk in. This raffle
will be drawn
at the club after the game.
After
the game, we would like to invite all supporters back
to the
Premiers Lounge at St George Leagues Club. The players
will have a
feed together at the club (in the Heritage room) and will
then join
all supporters downstairs for drinks and entertainment.
There will be
a players presentation and many old stories to talk about.
So
many old faces are going to be there on the night. We
have Brian
Smith coming to make a guest appearance as Coach, Nathan
Brown will
be running the water for the last time since his career
change, ref
of the '92 grand final Greg McCallum will be helping out
on the day,
and many more.
Players
confirmed for the Saints team, along with Brad Mackay
include: Mark Coyne, Scott Gourley, David Barnhill, Mick
Potter, Rod
Wishart, Ricky Walford, Paul McGregor, Ian Herron, Graeme
Wynn, Mark
Bell, Graeme Bradley. I've also spoken with Choc Mundine
and he has
told me he could possibly make an appearance. He has a
fight this
Saturday night and is then off to Vegas, but he assures
me he will
make every effort to be there and PLAY! Lord Ted Goodwin
will also be
there and will act as the referee. The current squad of
St.George-
Illawarra players will be attending the night as well.
Many
other old faces will be making an appearance on the night,
including some of the legends of Saints. Please forward
this on to as
many fans as you know, the more we have at the game, the
more money
we can raise to help breast cancer, and the more fun we
can have on
the night!
Look
forward to seeing you all there,
Jeffro
Hardy ....... now Jeffro with NO afro and a gimpy leg
.......
but hey, I will still be singing "Oh When The Saints"!!!
