Dragons hooker Aaron
Gorrell will undergo a knee reconstruction after a
training mishap in the final minute of the session
yesterday.
Gorrell, 21, who made
his NRL debut last season, will see a surgeon tomorrow
to determine when the operation will take place.
Gorrell has ruptured
his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee as
well as damaging the medial ligament.
He was playing touch
football in the final minute of the session in just
the second week back at training for the 2003 season.
Ive never
had any trouble with my knees before, Gorrell
said. I jumped in the air for the ball and fell
forward maybe I landed in a hole. Its
very disappointing.
Gorrell is not the only
Dragons player to go under the knife in the next few
weeks. Nathan Tutt will have both shoulders operated
on next week; Mark Dalle Cort will have an operation
on his right shoulder; and Matt Primmer will have
a shoulder (left) reconstruction.
Update on other injuries:
Shaun Timmins
Right knee operation. Will be off crutches this week.
Jason Ryles Right midfoot foot sprain. Cast
removed this week.
Dean Byrne Fractures in both feet. 6-8 weeks
off weight-bearing training.
Shane Laloata Right shoulder reconstruction.
