Its understood that
funding for Kogarah Jubilee Oval refurbishments have
been given the green light following NSW government
grant approval.
As expected, the state
contribution of $400,000 has been matched by a guarantee
of $400,000 from the St George League Club.
It has been reported
that a decision should be made this week on whether
the State Government funding is available for the
Jubilee Oval upgrade.
In September, Kogarah
Council lodged an application for a $400,000 grant
under the Regional Sports Facility Program with the
Department of Sport & Recreation.
It is likely that an
announcement will be made public on Tuesday, the 3rd
of December. This date sees the launch of the Jubilee
Oval Community Appeal and the Annual General Meeting
of the St George District RLFC.
In related news, the
opening match for Kogarah in 2003 is yet to be announced
with both the round two match (21-23 March) against
Parramatta or the round five match (11-13 April) against
Manly looking likely to be scheduled at WIN Stadium,
Wollongong.
This allows time for
the Kogarah upgrade and paves the way for a St George
vs Cronulla Sharks local derby to be the first return
match at Kogarah in round eight (2-4 May, 2003).
Not knowing the date
or the opponent hasn't dampened the spirit of St George
supporters with the much-celebrated Return To Kogarah
match having been sold out weeks ago.
