It
has been confirmed that the Dragons have signed veteran backrower, John
Cross (pictured right) for 2003.
Cross 29, played over 117
games with Illawarra before joining the Panthers in 1998. A Port Kembla
junior, he captained the Steelers as a 20 year old to a narrow 11-10 loss
to the touring Great Britain side in 1992.
With 246 first grade games
under his belt, the second rower is expected add some much needed experience
to the Dragons' pack in 2003.
Although making something
of a late charge, the Dragons have been busy in recent weeks securing the
signatures of a number of players.
In
addition to the earlier signings of rookies, Brett Firman (Sharks) and
Lee Bennett (Roosters), Dragons management have also added Melbourne Storm
backrower, 22 year old Henry Perenara (pictured left), John Wilshere (Panthers)
and Don Dickson (Canterbury) earlier this week.
In other news, rumours abound
that former St George clubman, prop Colin Ward may make a return to Saints
following his stint with the Panthers while there are also noises that
front rower, Chris Leikvoll may be forced to retire due to injury.
