Rugby League News:
Rumour highlights Dragons problem
30/09/02

Written by: Dragan Blazevic

The past few days have been interesting to say the least. Our coach is rumoured to have handed his resignation, certain players are upset by this and converge on the club to vent their anger. The club denies the rumour. WOW what do we make of it all?

Rumours are just that rumours. However, rumours like these don't build the momentum it had unless there was some truth to it. Players that made their way down to the Taj must have thought it to be true. These players are close to the coach. One must assume they would have phoned Farrar to confirm these rumours before they raced to the club and made such a racket. So by their actions one can conclude the rumour was genuine.

Some would say that if these players feel so strongly about the coach that they are willing to compromise the overall wellbeing of the club they don't belong at this club. Others feel that loyalty to your friends is a fine characteristic in anyone and to believe so strongly in your mates is worth of recognition.

Yes but to be blinded by friendship is a dangerous matter. To place a friends importance ahead of the teams and the clubs is not only wrong but also selfish to say the least. There are other ways, more diplomatic ways of showing support for a friend in need. Barging into the leagues club with a full head of steam like Rambo shooting your mouth off is not one of them.

This is another example that typifies the underlining problem at our club. The lack of leadership both on and off the field has created a culture. Which not only lacks discipline but also has allowed immaturity to flourish. It's allowed certain players to dictate terms and thus hold the club to ransom. The question must be asked WHY?

The only thing one can conclude from that is that Peter Doust must be a part of the problem. As an Eastern European proverb says, "a fish always stinks from the head." A good CEO knows that he is responsible for actions of his subordinates, whom he must hold accountable for the results they deliver.

Harry Truman knew that when he said, "the buck stops here" (meaning at the White House). Evidently not so at the Dragons House.

It is utterly amazing that no official has so far taken responsibility for what happened this year yet alone the last 2.5 years. No one is being held accountable. Is that why Doust and his cohorts in the Dragons Inc. are now trying to deflect our attention and scrutiny away from themselves, by skipping proof (of Doust's culpability), and rushing straight from grieving to retaliation?

Regardless of how the lower grades fare this year, 2002 on field performances have been a major disappointment as a St.George Illawarra Dragons fan. :(
