Test prop Shaun Timmins has been sidelined for the rest of this season
after an arthroscope yesterday, but he is expected to return for the start
of the 2003 NRL competition.
Timmins, 26, who missed the Dragons’
stunning victory over Newcastle on Sunday because of pain in his right
knee, did not want to take any chances after being out of action for 18
months with a chronic injury to his other knee.
Dragons chief executive officer Peter
Doust said: “The arthroscope identified the fact there are some difficulties
with his (right) knee.
“Thankfully it’s not as bad an injury
as the one he had to his other knee though. He had some minor work done
on it and now it is a matter of waiting over the next six weeks.
“We do anticipate a full recovery for
next year.”
Timmins said he has been ordered to
rest for a couple of weeks before returning to the specialist in six weeks.
“To say I’m disappointed is an understatement,”
Timmins said. “I’m devastated. I’ve worked so hard to get back on the park
and we’ve forced our way into the play-offs with a great win over Newcastle
– and then this happens.
“But I’ll take in on the chin and be
there supporting the boys and helping any way I can during the finals series.”
It will be a big weekend for Dragons
supporters with all three grades making the semi-finals – Parramatta are
the only other NRL club to achieve that feat this season also.
