The Return to Kogarah group (R2K) would like to
express its delight at St.George Illawarra RLFC's
decision to return to Kogarah Jubilee Oval for 50%
of its home games in 2003.
The Return to Kogarah
Group was formed in June 2000 to lobby the parties
concerned in order for the team to return to its
spiritual home.
R2K held numerous
public events throughout this time including a Rally
in 2000, an Information Night in March 2002 and
most recently a benefit dinner held at Brighton
Novotel two weeks ago. It has also organised supporter's
delegations that met with club officials and ran
candidates to the most recent St.George Leagues
Club elections.
Notable personalities
have backed a return to Jubilee at R2K events including
Frank Hyde, Tony Squires, Mark Coyne, John Dowling,
Dick Caine, Cherie Burton MP, Graeme Langlands,
John Raper, Reg Gasnier as well as many others.
The R2K group has
no immediate plans to abandon its activities but
is keen to continue working with the relevant bodies
to ensure the Dragons never leave the district again.
R2K would like to
thank all those who supported the movement to date
as well as Kogarah Council, the Club and most importantly
the supporters. Had the fans not stubbornly refused
to allow the issue to die, this day may never have
come.
