Rugby League News:
Victory day for R2K
05/09/02

Written by: R2K

The Saints have marched back to Kogarah! St. George-Illawarra
announced this afternoon (05/09/2002) that the Dragons are returning
to Kogarah for five home games in 2003.A 2pm press conference was
held at Jubilee Oval which confirmed the long awaited return.

In attendance were Dragons' officials Robert Stone and Peter Doust
who made the announcement. Also in attendance from the Club were
Immortal Johnny Raper, coach Andrew Farrar, Trent Barrett, Mark
Gasnier and Lance Thompson.

There are a number of people who deserve credit for this decision.
Kogarah Mayor Jim Taylor has shown great leadership by his stance on
Jubilee Oval and is largely responsible for the momentum that has
been gained over the last few months.

Robert Stone from the St. George DRLFC has obviously put many long
hours into the Jubilee return and for that he should be
congratulated. The St. George Leagues Club has also made the correct
decision in agreeing to underwrite the grant application.

The St. George-Illawarra supporters also deserve recognition for
keeping a return to Kogarah on the agenda. Well done to the
supporters who attended the first R2K rally in July 2000, the
Information Night in March this year and the R2K Immortals Dinner.

As R2K President, I would like to thank my fellow committee members
who have continually put 100% into a return to Kogarah:

John Ormsby, Fay Samuel, Zoran Mitrevski, Tristan Burg, Adrian
Wright, Dragan Blazevic, Melina Lathouras and Chris Dickson.

There are also a host of other supporters who have contributed to the
campaign and they are too numerous to mention.

A special mention must be made of Nick Stojanovski who has been
overseas in 2002 but was responsible for initiating the first R2K
rally in July 2000.

The R2K group will now work to ensure that the Dragons never repeat
the mistakes of 1986 & 2000. Now we have a return to Kogarah, let's
ensure that 50% of home games are retained at Kogarah.

The battle has been won. Bring on 2003 and bring it on quickly!

Lachlan McLean - R2K President
