Rugby League News:
KOGARAH, MY KOGARAH
29th March, 2002. Article by SAINTDRAGON

The Return to Kogarah group (R2K) would like to announce that despite its candidates failing to gain election to the board of St.George Leagues Club, the group will continue pushing for the club to return to the St.George District.

R2K was happy with the amount of votes received by Zoran Mitrevski, Lachlan McLean and Fay Samuel, nearly double that of any challenger at any of the past 5 Leagues Club elections.

It was unanimously passed at the Information Night of 16 March for a taskforce consisting of representatives from the club, local council and R2K.

R2K would like to refute claims made by Dragons CEO Peter Doust in the Illawarra Mercury and St.George and Sutherland Shire Leader. Doust claimed that a return to Kogarah was not an option and that members of R2K were "not versed with reality".

R2K would like to know exactly what is so unrealistic about the main policies of the R2K endorsed Red and White ticket.

Policy 1: An immediate return to Kogarah Jubilee Oval for 50% of home games.
With Wests Tigers playing games at the dilapidated but much loved Liechhardt Oval, R2K cannot understand why Doust is not prepared to make the same "sacrifices" made by its fellow Joint Venture Club. Kogarah Oval is perfectly capable of hosting 1st grade Rugby League matches in its present state and playing games there would solve most if not all of the conflicts within the joint venture club.

Policy 2: Putting Leagues Club funds toward upgrading Kogarah Jubilee Oval.
R2K believes that it is irresponsible for a club like St.George who make significant profits from poker machines to refuse point blank to put some of that money toward a community project like upgrading Kogarah. An upgrade to Kogarah would not only benefit the local district, but would benefit the vast army of Dragons supporters who live all over the country who treasure that sacred ground.

Policy 3: Offering full voting rights to Red Vee members.
R2K will let the public decide why Peter Doust would oppose giving Red Vee members full voting rights.

In short, R2K would like to remind St.George Illawarra supporters that a return to Kogarah is a realistic option and that at some point in time, the club's management will have to answer to public opinion. As evidenced in the club's "we want to know about you" survey, a vast majority of supporters want to see the club back at Kogarah Jubilee Oval.
