PREVIEW:
SAINTS v C'BURY The Return of Bull Sydney Football Stadium, Friday 31 August 7.30pm: The Dragons are set to celebrate the return Luke Bailey to the forward pack on Friday when they take on the Canterbury Bulldogs at the SFS. However, Saints are without a number of key players and late mail has Mark Riddell being sidelined. His place at hooker will most likely be taken up by Wayne Bartrim. This is in addition to the recent suspension of Craig Smith and injuries to Lance Thompson and Colin Ward.

Unfortunately, from a Dragons point of view, it wasn't a pretty sight. It's difficult to understand how Saints could have lost this match. The Bulldogs started well and at half time they led 10-4 but they were down to just 2 interchanges and looked to be running out of troops. Blacklock was targeted early as Canterbury tried to knock him out of the match but for all intents and purposes, The Dragons with a ton of possession, looked set to overwhelm C'bury. However, Saints adopted an absurd policy of attempting to run around the Bulldogs defence and our forwards simply lacked the guts to take the ball up. Barrett was constantly being squeezed into rushed decisions as ball distribution and defence dropped to a pathetic standard. It wasn't all doom and gloom and it's fair to say that a few players rolled up their sleeves and showed us that there are still some players who are capable of showing pride in the red vee. Unfortunately, it was too little too late as Canterbury hung on to win. Despite making an horrific error behind the tryline which led to a Canterbury try, Amos Roberts injected himself into the attack and it was his individual brilliance that gave the Dragons some hope. However, the likely turning point of the match occurred early in the 2nd half when Saints had the Bulldogs on the ropes and elected to go for a penalty goal instead of applying the pressure. If ever there was a case for going for the try, this was it. The Canterbury players looked relieved and were taking in the deep breaths as the goal attempt sailed wide of the posts. Moments later, Canterbury's Vagana scored and the writing was on the wall. With round 26 completed, it has now been confirmed that Saints will be taking on the Bulldogs again next week and this may be seen as an opportunity for the players to redeem themselves. MATCH
REPORT (BY THE CLOCK):
SOTV BEST PLAYERS: Amos Roberts (3pts) Despite a sloppy incident whch led to a try, Amos really fired in the 2nd half and almost won us the game. Trent Barrett (2pts) Backed up, scored a try, tried hard with little help from his forwards. Nathan Blacklock (1pt) Heavily marked but still created worries for the opposition, often drawing 2 or 3 defenders and created openings for his team mates. Click
