Chapter 2
Look after your Football Gear!

The care of your football gear is most important. Look at any leading player on the field - notice how neat his appearance is. Internationals spend a lot of time attending to their gear and this is one of the reasons for their success.

Boots are by far the most important item - they must be the right fit and be properly laced to give good support to your ankles. Six studs are sufficient; two on the heel and four on the toe. Don't let studs become worn or loose. It is a matter of taste as to whether you use soft or hard toes. Use clean socks for every match - don't let them fall down during a game, it looks untidy and could spoil your kicking; also it gives the other team something easy to hang onto. A hole in your sock could lead to a blister and hamper your play. Have them fixed!
Shorts should be well adjusted - they should fit the waist so that they are comfortable and don't need hitching.
If you run out on the field "looking good", you'll help yourself and no doubt impress the other side.
