(see Brown profile) supporters emails 2 Apr 2001: gone but never forgotten ... Nathan Brown was my favourite player and will remain my favourite player of all time. He has the qualities everyone should aspire to have. He's a decent, well mannered, respectable, giving sportsman who was loyal to his club and loved his fans. Brown's ability on field has improved with every season he's played with the red&whites and unfortunately i feel he hasnt been given the opportunity to reach his full potential. As a huge fan i am still deeply shocked and saddened by his retirement, although the decision was in his best interest, i only wish he had the chance to win a grand final with the saints. That day may not come now as a player but hopefully one day he will achieve that goal as a coach. THANKYOU Brownie for the memories and best of luck in what ever you decide to pursue in the future. from your 1 of your fans, jill. 25 Mar 2001: The one match I particularly remember is the 1999 Finals Match against Cronulla and Brownie was off with a head cut. He ran down the sideline with a bandage on his head that memory will last with me forever. Thanks for the memories. Up the dragons 24 Mar 2001: the great thingis we got to see brownie play. it's good that no real permanent injury occurred. good luck brownie!! toz 20 Mar 2001: I was lucky to see Brownie play. He was good and always close to the action. His try against the Broncos last year at ANZ was a gem, right up the middle and under the posts. we might be able to find another hooker but it's going to be hard to replace the presence of Brownie. Mark, Southport. 17 Mar 2001: I couldn't believe it. Another Dragon falls and after all that's happened with injuries, suspensions and a team so bad to watch. The only good thing is that he'll be OK and can live a life and I guess that's the most important thing. Thanks. Robbo. |

Because i just love the footy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I watched Shaun Timmins get injured at the S.O that tragic knee injury and Mundine ( the bloody idiot) also Gasnier and his broken leg! You may not think so but i know a lot about the club and a lot about it's history i know things that have happened and how we got kicked out of kograh! Things havent gone well for the saints in the past but believe me i know the boys will put in a effort this year I CAN FEEL IT!!!!!!!! NATHAN BROWN is my favourite player..... i have liked him for soooo

Supporters have their say about the Alternate Strip
I don't about any one else but nothing beats the red v. But if we have to have this alternate jersey then so be it. It certainly has been getting marketed well. I just don't want it to be the main jersey. But its' not so I go along with it. Seasons Greetings. Amanda, Arncilffe. 21Dec2000: Mary is wearing a watch! Is this part of the away strip? This way they can't be late for the kickoff...:) Robbo 15Dec2000: Its looks great. Apparently they've kept the old StGeorge socks. Julian 14Dec2000: Iwould have preferred to see the Steelers jersey as an away strip. Crust 13Dec2000: I think the new strip looks fine. As long as it doesn't take over and is a sometimes thing I can't see anything wrong with it. Robbo 13Dec2000: Why do we have to change at all? The red vee looks nothing like Manly's jumper. It's just another effort to chip away at the good things. Andrew |

13Dec2000: Hi I live on the Gold Coast and have just received St.George Illawarra Official Merchandise Catalogue in the mail. I rang the St.George Illawarra football club to buy a copy of the 1999 highlights video called "Breathing Fire into 1999", but was advised that the video has been sold out. Do you know were I could buy a copy of this video, or have a copy made? I have been following the Dragons since 1977 and would love a copy of last years highlights (except the last Game!). Living in Queensland makes it difficult to purchase St.George Illawarra Merchandise and Catalogue arrive late. Steve Mansfield snmansfield_dfc@bigpond.com.au |

| 26Apr2000: The events of late April from my viewpoint:
The events of the last few days have over shadowed the win over Penrith. Lance Thompson is almost certainly out for the season and Anthony Mundine may be gone as well if News and TV reports are anything to go on. Lance Thompson's knee injury is a shocking blow for Saints & for Lance Thompson as he is clearly in his prime. We can only wish him the best and hope for a speedy recovery. Just a few weeks back, Mundine was derided by the media, certain ex-players and supporters for being a loud mouth. Anthony has since kept his trap shut and suddenly he has become an 'enigma'. This pulling down of Choc has been annoying me to the point of distraction for months now it looks like the bastards in the media have got their way - a real story at last. The facts of Rugby League are nothing when compared to the facts of life. Anthony Mundine is an honest, clean living athlete. He doesn't drink and he doesn't smoke. He is not a drug cheat. He has never disgraced himself in public. He has never vomited in a police station after a night on the town. He has never gone on television wearing skirts and doing bad Benny Hill routines. He doesn't go around beating up people in drunken brawls. On the contrary, he has been a valued member of the community and a role model, someone who youngsters look up to. Mundine's biggest crime was that he spoke his mind and that made certain people cringe. Why is it that players who are stupid and do stupid things are soon let off the hook while a player who is forthright and bold finds himself driven out of the country? During one of many the power struggles of ancient Rome, a wise mentor once said to his genius prodigy, "...act the fool, boy...act the fool, for if you show your mind, they will surely kill you." Anthony Mundine may or may not be the best five-eighth
in the world, but who really cares? Perhaps if he kept his thoughts to
himself, was white and acted like a piss head he might have earned more
respect. All I know is that he deserves better.

I've followed the Dragons since the sixties and could never imagine supporting any other team in any other sport. Nowadays I live in Italy and its pretty hard to get any news. Its great to have all these great web sites to keep me touch. None of the locals here quite understood what I was going through after the Melbourne disgrace but it s great to see things are back on the straight and narrow. I check out all the Dragons web sites but come to this one first. Keep up the good work fellas! Michael, Bologna (formerly of Bexley) |
| 13Mar2000:
I'm sick of hearing every man and their dog's opinion on what is going wrong with St George. I'm sick of everyone slamming St George. I'm sick of Mundine not admitting that Trent Barrett should be at five-eight. Mundine is a brilliant player, no denying it, but St George is playing with 2 five-eight> Transfer interrupted!rded five-eight and should beplaying at five-eight. When he dropped into that position against the Tigers St George actually started producing something effective. In saying that, we,as St George supporters, know that Mundine will NEVER be relegated to centre or fullback so we have to have faith in David Waite's coaching ability (I'm sure he actually does know how to coach). As for Mundine's so-called 'outspokenness', I say good luck to him. He says what he feels - SO WHAT- and manages to combine that with knowing how to stir up some reaction. He has contributed personality to the game that was lacking. If Mundine conformed to what the media are telling him to, then the media would have nothing to talk about!! Don't despair! Saints ALWAYS have a rocky start to season. We fans know
that

| 10Mar2000:
All week I've been reading in the press how Mundine should shut up and play footy. I have read numerous reports demanding that gets dropped so as to 'teach him a lesson'. I have also read a number of comments suggesting that Mundine would do the Aboriginal community a service if he kept his mouth shut. I've sat back and listened to this sort of crap all week and now I've simply had enough of it. Mundine is a brilliant footballer and a man who speaks his mind. He has one bad game and there are dozens of wankers lining up to lay the boot in. To say the knives are out for Mundine is an understatement! I haven't seen this sort of hate mongering since the Dingo took Lindy's baby I have yet speak to one person who can tell me that they have never put their foot in their mouth. What we have here is an over-abundance of hypocrites! I'm glad that the Dragons kept their heads amongst this barrage of nonsense and Mundine wasn't dropped for the match this weekend. He is such a fantastic player that I am certain that he will come out fighting and KO the critics in the first round! Steven Gold Coast |

I believe that something needs to be done regarding Anthony Mundine and the way in which he is constantly making outlandish statements in the media. I don't think that the blame should be aimed solely at him but Brian Johnston and David Waite to take a stand and tell him to keep his big mouth shut!! The say he does it because he is a confidence player. That's a load of crap because players like Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler and Laurie Daley are all players that perform with a lot of confidence, but they are not continually in the spotlight. They need to do something about it- and they need to do itsoon. Getting back to the game, I honestly believe that Trent Barrett is the best player in their team at the moment and he would be a even better asset to the team if he were playing in his natural position of five-eighth. There is living proof that he is better in the No.6 jumper. After all, he did play State of Origin there in 1997 and had an excellent series. Did Anthony Mundine ever make State of Origin in this positon? No, he didn't. The only time that he did make State of Origin was last year and that was off the bench. The team needs to be reshuffled to allow its best player to play in his natural position. In the Melbourne game, the forward pack also had a horrible night, with the Storm forwards running all over the top of the Dragons forwards. They miss Craig Smith, and it is a good thing that he is back this week. They miss his leadership. In regards to the 2001 season, it has become obvious that The Man is not happy at St George Illawarra and that he would rather go to the world of boxing, so I think they should just tear up his contract, tell h> Transfer interrupted!f the spotlight on the boxing world, give Trent Barrett his five-eighth jersey back and look at investing in a good quality halfback, who will be able to both work in tandem withTrent Barrett and set up his outside men, which is something they have been lacking. All you have to do is have a look at the halfbacks that are coming off contract at the end of 2000- JOHNS, KIMMORLEY and TAYLOR. This is a good enough reason in itself to get rid of The Man and invest in a player that will deliver the goods to the club and not just keep promising that they will. Kristen Delany |

Oh My God! These guys just can't tackle!!! Look out! We got the ball now! Oh My God! They dropped the ball, AGAIN! Oh No! Storm have scored AGAIN! Oh My My God! they've kicked off out on the full. AGAIN!!! Shit! what a mess... Just have to take it one week at time from here on in... Anon |
| 6Mar2000:
I was absolutely disgusted with the Dragons on Friday. Thrashed 70 - 10 by Melbourne and Harrigan. What the hell is happening? Is it really all Mundine's fault? Personally, I can't see how we can blame one player and it might be a good idea to stop looking for a simple scape-goat. The real solution is more difficult then just telling Mundine to shut up. The whole team should hang its head in shame. After thats done with they can then lift themselves up collectively and hand out a thrashing as soon as possible...that means this weekend. Thanks for the site. Robert - Blakehurst |
| 6 Mar2000:
Maybe a few of the players should read the 1964 'How to Play Rugby League' book on your website. They seem to have forgotten the fundamentals. Karen 'Saints Forever' -Nowra |

So another thrashing? I remember well the humilation of the 74 Grand Final when the Dragons were downed 38-0 and having to turn my head away as the mighty Changa Langlands struggled to see the ball. In '94, it was worse as we went down 61-0 to the those bastards, Manly. All this was swept aside when the 99 Grand Final was slipped through our fingers and we lost a game which just 20 minutes earlier we were celebrating a 'certain' victory. I thought, 'it cant get any worse...' but it just did. It's fine to see Nathan Brown apologising to us all for the team playing awful and getting done 70-10 by a good, but not great Melbourne team. But I its time the boys, and that what they are, just boys, wiped the silly grins off their faces and got down to some hard yakka. They have a duty to show that the jersey they wear means something more than a ticket to material wealth. Next weekend they must hand the supporters some sign that we are not wasting our time here. The club officials must take a hard line on any internal problems and keep it within the ranks and the coaches must work those lads harder than they've ever been worked before. There is one thing that i noticed about the Dragons in the seasons gone, everytime they suffer a set back, they always to come out fighting and that being the case, god help Wests this weekend! Go Dragons! Pete Brannigan -Gold Coast |

(from Changa's Message Centre) This 70-10 is terrible loss but remember when we got done 61-0 by Manly and made the Gf in the following year? Given the current make up of this comp., I reckon Saints are certs for GF qualification in 2000. Sazza |
