Five eighth. Halfback.
Dapto junior. Born 9 May 1982 in Wagga Wagga NSW. Height: 175cm. Debuted
for Saints Saturday, 29 March 2003 (v Raiders at Canberra Stadium). Following
an injury to Brett Firman (broken leg) in early 2004, Head took over as halfback.
He made such an impact that Firman was granted a release in mid-2004. Head
played in just four matches in 2003 before shining in 2004 to become the clubs
leading first grade point scorer with 119 points (scoring five tries, 49 goals
and one field goal in 23 of a possible 25 NRL matches). Winner of 2004 Intergral
Energy Dragons Medal (clubs first grade player of the year award).
Head was again set for standout season in 2005 before suffering a season-ending
knee injury in round 14. Injury concerns continued to hamper Head's progress
in 2006 with the playmaker appearing in just 14 games and kicking 15 goals from
26 attempts. During 2006, Head re-signed with the Dragons until 2008. But events
similar to his predecessor intervened, and Head's contract was set to end prematurely. In
2007, Head played six games in another season hampered by injury. Following the
mid-season signing of halfback Jamie Soward, Head was eventually released to play
with Hull in the UK before being signed by Wests Tigers in late 2007. more:

First Grade debut for Saints July 8, 2000 (v Panthers
at Penrith)
In 2003, Hornby was awarded the club's Integral
Energy Dragons Medal (best and fairest) and is
considered one of the most underrated players
in the NRL.
Following a exceptional start to the season at
fullback, Hornby was selected for NSW in the 2004
State of Origin series.
In 2005, Hornby's utility value was realised when
he moved from fullback to halfback, playing the
second half of the season there following a season-ending
injury to regular half Mathew Head. In the same
year, Hornby filled in as captain on seven occasions
during Trent Barrett's absence.
Also in 2005, Hornby won the club's Geoff Selby
Memorial NRL Coaches Award.
In 2006, Hornby played all 27 matches for the
Dragons, the only player in the squad to do so.
Playing mainly in the full back and half back
positions, Hornby bagged five tries, two goals
(from two attempts) and two field goals for a
season total of 26 points.
In the same year he was named in the NSW side
for State of Origin III.
Hornby capped off a tremendous 2006 season when
he made his Test debut for Australia in that year's
Tri-Nations series, Hornby being selected at half
back against Great Britain in fourth Tri-Nations
encounter.
In 2007, Hornby was named as co-captain (along
with Jason Ryles and Mark Gasnier).
In 2008, Hornby captained the side three times
(Rounds 6, 12 and 21) and played in 24 first grade
games. In May he was selected for NSW Country
in that year's drawn City v Country Origin clash.
Also in 2008, Hornby was recalled into State of
Origin for the NSW side, on the interchange bench
for game 1.
Hornby is currently contracted with the Dragons
until the end of 2010.
