Dally M Medals are awarded every year at the end of the final round of the competition and just prior to the semis.
The awards are organised by News Ltd and promoted through their publication, the Sydney Daily Telegraph.
They are named after 'Dally M' Messenger, rugby union and rugby league star who was instrumental in the development of rugby league in Australia in the early 1900s.
The awards were instigated in 1980 and have missed only one year in 1997 during the league media conflict.
Previous winners of  'Player of the Year' include dual winner, St George's Michael Potter in 1991.
